Go to (where the) hell (was I?)

December 12, 2003

Have you met Charlie? You should. If you aren’t reading him you are seriously missing out on some great humor. If you are not totally, 100% satified with my semi-unofficial Blog it Forward this round, you can have all of you money back with interest. (And a smack on the rear just for fun)

Go see Charlie and tell him Jenn sent you.

Go.

Now.

What are you waiting for?

Oh, I forgot to unlock the door and let you out. Okay, there. You can go now.

NaNoWriMo BlahBlogBling

November 3, 2003

I just wanted to thank those of you who really encouraged me to just get going on this writing! Can I just say how very much I am loving it?!

I am up to about 4,000 words. (Not too bad considering I already took a day off.)

The thing that amazes me with this whole thing is that I honestly don’t know where things are going to go. I mean, I have an idea where I want it to end up, but once I stopped trying to make it happen, it just happened.

The story is leading me rather than me leading it. I am LOVING it! I mean, I feel such a deep contentment when I am writing it.

Wanna hear a secret? Don’t laugh. Promise? Okay.

Well, when I go to write, I will fix a cup of coffee first, get all comfortable with my laptop and relax. The strange part (you can tell me if this is really bizarre, too), I feel like I am sitting down having coffee with old friends. I mean, I really am starting to like my characters as if they are becoming friends that I am getting to know better everyday.

Now wait, before you call the guys with the straight jackets, I am not losing my mind and thinking they are real or anything. It is sort of how it is when you read a novel you enjoy and you feel like you “know” the characters after a while and look forward to reading about them and seeing what happens. Or on your favorite tv show or in your favorite movie. It is sort of like that. Except, even the writer doesn’t know where they will go.

I am not sure if any of that makes sense. Just wanted to tell you that I am thoroughly enjoying this experience and am so thankful for your support!

Thanks!

Nothing to say…in a lot of words

November 1, 2003

I just typed a really long post and it is gone.

Ohhhhh that ticks me off.

It isn’t like I have been writing all evening or anything.

Oh wait. Yes, I have. I’m sorry, but I just don’t have it in me right now to type it all out again. Besides, it was just ramblings anyway. You didn’t want to hear it me go on and on about kids and candy and bedtimes, right?

As for other things, I have been working on my Nanowrimo writing. Talk about having trouble getting started! It was that first freaking sentence that got me stuck. I couldn’t find the right one. You know the one? The one that makes you want to read the second and third and so on? Yeah, that one was a booger!

After I feel more into it and get to know the characters better, I will post some if you want to read it. I may make it a password thing. Not that I have anything incredible to say or hide, but I am just THAT insecure about this whole “can I really write a novel?” thing.

I guess that is the funny thing about dreams. When you face it head on and decide to go for it, it can really become more personal to you than to anyone else. Beyond another person’s comprehension.

Is there something you have always wanted to do? Something you dreamed of doing forever? Something that literally makes your heart beat a bit faster, your mind start racing and you just can’t help but smile to yourself at the very thought of actually doing this? Is there something that you want so badly you can almost taste it?

That’s me and writing a novel.

And sometimes, when you face the first step of starting on something that has become so big in your mind, it can scare you into paralysis. That has been me. The whole idea of “What if I can’t?” “What if it is terrible and everyone (including me) hates it?” “What if my dream turns out to be a nightmare, then what do I dream about?”

So, if I do go to a password site just to post the novel I am working on, it is only because I want to know who I am letting in on my dream. I wouldn’t ever turn anyone away. It’s just that I would feel strange knowing that I have no idea who is reading what I have to say. I don’t even know if that makes sense. Who knows? Maybe once I get into things, I may want anyone and everyone to share it. We’ll see.

So, I am off to write some more. I am having fun getting to know my characters. I look forward to seeing what happens to them.

Hey, look….it looks like I had something to say afterall! Whadda ya know?

Bored blog

October 17, 2003

I am officially blog bored. I am bored with my design. I want a new one already. (And yes, I am trashing the frames if you care.) But here is the dilemma. I may be bored, but I am also website/design ignorant. We’re talking seriously lacking in the knowledge here. I don’t even know where to get new graphics and fun stuff to dress it up. Any ideas? I would love idea input!

I want an page overhaul!

Blog it forward

October 8, 2003

Not one to let that bandwagon pass me by, I am going to go ahead and jump on. Buzz had a great idea today to Blog it Forward. My only problem is that I love so many blogs, I don’t know how to choose! So, I am going to choose some of the blogs I don’t see on many of the blogrolls on the sites I visit.

I recently found Shelley through her comments on my blog. (See leaving comments gets people to find you!) She posts some great “slice-of-life” essays. I am always entertained there.

If you aren’t reading Kristine yet, you should be. She is so funny and has a great outlook on things. The more I get to know her, the more I realize how cool she is. Go check her out.

And finally, since Buzz said it could also be someone who has made a difference in your life, I want to point you towards Cassie-B. She has made a difference in my blogging life for sure. She always seems to say the right thing at the right time to me. I have found I truly look forward to what she has to say when she comments on my blog. And I always look forward to reading what she says on her own blog. She is one helluva a great lady! Go check her out!

There are many more I want to add to this. Check out any and all on my blogroll and I promise you won’t be disappointed. I say we do this every month, once a month! Whadda say, blogosphere?

Comment fixer-upper

September 14, 2003

So a couple of you emailed me or commented to me that posting a comment was difficult here. Therefore, I have been working on it to make it more user friendly. I mean, what else do I have to do this late on a Sunday night following a sleepless weekend? lol

Let me know if this works. Thank you very much to those of you who let me know that it was a p.i.t.a. trying to leave a comment. It got me off my butt and made me call upon my resources to help me figure it out. (Thanks once again, to the javamama for saving my butt!)

Now. I am off to bed. I am still recovering from the weekend. I will let you know in more detail how all of that went tomorrow. Let’s put a little distance between living the weekend and actually talking about it.

Code Blue…

August 13, 2003

My Game Cube tried to commit suicide today. I think it was having
abandonment issues since the boys went back to school. There was a power surge
this afternoon when Kidlet Jr was playing that would normally just cause a
hiccup in the game, but the GC took the opportunity to climb on the ledge of the
electronic high rise. I tried to talk to talk it down. I promised that I would
let the boys play in the afternoon for a while. No go. I promised that I would
let them play on the weekends even if it was nice outside and I wanted to send
them outside to play. Not even a tiny “power-on” flicker of a light. Finally, I
convinced it to work because I told it that I would let the Diva play Finding
Nemo during the day. I guess that worked. The power light flickered on briefly
and then came back strong. Crisis averted.

Coding…sort of

After a few
years with someone, you get to know the hidden meanings behind their words.
After being with my Geek-Man for more than half of my life, we have come up with
our own code. (No, not the kind where we hid under the blankets with our
flashlights and came up with a secret code book.) There are just certain phrases
or words that really mean something entirely different than what you hear. Don’t
all couples have this? To illustrate, here are some of our codes: “Just so you
know” really means: This is how it is going to be and I am telling you so that
you can’t say you didn’t know about it later on. (Sidenote: there is no
discussion when a conversation starts with “just so you know”) “In case you were
wondering” means: You should’ve asked about this, but since you haven’t, I am
going to tell you. (Sidenote: Usually this is said in a rather sarcastic tone so
that the recipient knows that (s)he is in trouble.) “Wanna snuggle?” means:
Wanna have sex? (said by the male) “I just wanna snuggle.” means: You’re not
getting sex. (said by the female) “Does this make me look fat?”(or other
variations of that question spoken by the woman) means: I feel insecure and you
need to tell me I look good. “Wow. You sure have been working hard” (usually
used when the other person has been outside working in the heat or has been
exercising) means: You really need to go take a shower. And the all time
favorite: “Yes, dear.” means: Whatever you say because I am really not listening
but I don’t want to get into trouble by admitting that. I would share more, but
couples need some secrets, right? What about you? Do you have a code, too? (And
don’t you dare answer me with “Yes, dear!”)
