New Review Up (over there)
February 23, 2009
I have a review up at Fresh Brewed Reviews where you can win an iPod touch for all of my hard work. That’s right…you win because I love you that much. Go over there and read it. If you have trouble commenting, comment here.

This sounds a lot like a program I used to have, NetNanny. I could block, warn, set time limits, etc. I really liked it. Then my computer took a crap and I lost the program. I will check out Norton’s because my kids are savvy, 9 and 11, and they think I don’t know when they’re on Youtube.
PS - I clicked the comment link over at freshbrewed and I get a permalink page instead. FYI.
February 23rd, 2009 at 10:00 PMI also can’t comment over there.
But I’m already loving what I’m reading about the Norton Online Family program. Thumbs up. Thanks for the review.
February 23rd, 2009 at 10:15 PMI would love to win an iPod Touch.. I’m a newbie into the “Mac/Apple” world but I am already being sucked in slowly but surely
February 23rd, 2009 at 10:30 PMThis sounds like a terrific program! Although we currently run Net Nanny and keep our kids’ computer in the middle of the kitchen, I would love to have this enabled on my computer and my husband’s for those times when the kids are using those computers. Even with “safe search” enabled, I am consistently dismayed by the stuff that gets through, particularly in image searches. I trust Norton, too. Definitely sounds worthwhile.
February 23rd, 2009 at 11:23 PMWhoa. This is some give away! With two teenagers, that whole time monitor feature sure would come in handy.
February 23rd, 2009 at 11:30 PMOoh, great program. I was hoping more of these would come about before my kids hit the teen years. We’re only a couple of years away now…
February 24th, 2009 at 12:13 AMI have an easy time staying in the loop with my girls {6 & 8} because they usually want to use my laptop since it is faster than our desktop. I’m hoping they get their own laptop soon {I’m tired of sharing - LOL!} and the Norton Online Family software sounds like it would be a wise investment when that happens.
P.S. I did not have any luck on Fresh Brewed either.
February 24th, 2009 at 1:00 AMI checked out the little video and I do like the features of this software. My kids are with me all the time because i’m a stay at home mom and a homeschooler, but I realize that they’re getting older and will want to do more without me over their shoulders. I like the fact that you can allot a certain amount of time and check back on the sites they visit.
February 24th, 2009 at 1:15 AMAnything to keep our kids safe. I used Parental Controls, no computers in the bedrooms etc. My youngest just shipped off to college last Aug. I just think we have to be diligent in protecting our kids. WATCH WATCH WATCH!!!
February 24th, 2009 at 3:31 PMKeep communicating with Your kids!!!

I’ve always kept the computer in the dining room where we can monitor what’s going on. I’ve also had all my children’s passwords and frequently check the history. All friends online must be pre-approved by my husband or me but even all that isn’t enough, I know. This software is a great backup tool for parents who just can’t be everywhere. I know I can’t sit right next to my 12 year old when she’s online, but this software can monitor what’s going on when I can’t be there. What a great tool for keeping kids safe online.
February 24th, 2009 at 4:31 PMThank you for telling us about this…I am a worry wort by nature and wonder how the heck am I going to keep my kids safe. I love the fact that we can pre-approve all of the sites before the kids or other family members get on the computer. What a great post..we love Norton and the helpful things they have come up with in the last few years.
February 24th, 2009 at 5:23 PMthanks

P.S. - Sorry, forgot to tell you great post!
No kids here, but if I did, they would be monitored to death! This program sounds like it will help a lot! Thank you for the great review.
February 24th, 2009 at 9:19 PMMy child needs to be monitored … Idon’t do a very good job of it - so I guess I do need this program .
thx

February 24th, 2009 at 9:25 PMCan’t seem to comment over on the other post.
Norton sounds like a wonderful program to use in the future when the girls get older. Right now I have to sit with them when they are using it to play Playhouse Disney or NickJr.
February 25th, 2009 at 12:48 AMwhat a great review and great giveaway. We constantly give reminders to our kids regarding what is OK and not OK to access online and when it’s ok for them to be surfing the internet. We talked about naughty things that are available and showed them how to use the favorites buttons to keep good websites available and easy to get. I also just simply try to be around when they are online–never leave them to it alone, never at night, never when a babysitter is here, etc.
Thanks for the chance. =)
February 25th, 2009 at 12:52 AMGreat review. Awesome prize.
February 25th, 2009 at 2:49 AMOoh. I am definitely going to look into getting that program. That’s exactly what we need in this house.
And, of course, I would totally love to win that iPod Touch.
February 25th, 2009 at 3:35 AMtrouble commenting over there too…
I don’t have kids of my own yet, but I teach. Any computer time (very little) is monitored by me though. I can see something like this being useful in schools.

February 25th, 2009 at 4:38 AMI SO need this. Great review - thanks Jenn!
February 25th, 2009 at 10:34 AMSounds like a good program.
February 25th, 2009 at 4:31 PMI was just at a taping of an Oprah show on this topic and loved seeing your review of the software!
February 25th, 2009 at 4:42 PMThis product would be super helpful. My son is starting to spend more time on the computer and I can’t always monitor him. Thanks for the great giveaway!
February 25th, 2009 at 5:40 PMIt sounds like a great product, I’d love to give it a try.
I love that itouch too!
I can’t leave a comment at the other site though, hope this counts!
February 25th, 2009 at 9:01 PMI was just looking for a reliable and user-friendly program to control content. Thanks for the review.
February 25th, 2009 at 9:11 PMMy kids are grown, but to keep my granddaughters safe, we only let them on the computer when we are with them. Looks like a great product.
February 25th, 2009 at 9:36 PMWe currently use windows parental controls, but I need something better! This looks like just what I’ve been looking for!
February 25th, 2009 at 10:12 PMTHis sounds great. I would love to have a back-up to help monitor the kids.
February 25th, 2009 at 10:55 PMWow. This would sure beat the Windows parental control that we use now. Thanks for the review!
February 26th, 2009 at 5:58 AMThat would be great to have! Thanks for the review!
February 26th, 2009 at 3:00 PMGreat review!! What an awesome product and also, a great giveaway!
February 26th, 2009 at 4:36 PMI am the mom of a preteen son and a ten year old daughter. My daughter is pretty limited to Nick.com, Club Penguin and Disney. My son is a whole different story. He used to be limited to sports sites (Sports Illustrated, team websites etc). However, he recently discovered YouTube. YIKES! Right now, our security system consists of either me or my husband sitting in the room with him. I would love a program that allowed BOTH of us a little more freedom.
February 26th, 2009 at 4:46 PMThanks for the review. Sounds like a great program. I love having another real person review the software first before spending my hard-earned money. This one really does sound good. With all the interaction from the internet these days, it’s a bit scary to think my home is open to a lot of people I don’t know. I think this program might be worth my money. Thanks again.
February 26th, 2009 at 4:57 PMCan’t comment after the link either…
Sounds like a good idea, but I have had bad luck with Norton products for the past few years. They like to install lots of “components” with their software that can cause problems with your computer. My family uses OpenDNS.com. It filters all of your internet traffic through their DNS servers and you can specify what you want to block, like chat rooms.
I probably won’t win the iPod since I am talking about a different way to filter internet access.
February 26th, 2009 at 8:41 PMThanks for the useful review- I am going to check Norton out as I worry what all my kids come across. This sounds great and is great to have “real” people reviews to learn about them.
February 27th, 2009 at 2:40 AMWould also love to win the iPod, but never win on these things, so won’t count on that!!
Anyway, thanks for the useful info to help keep my kids safe and out of trouble!
Mary
Couldn’t comment there, but I’ll comment here. What a great prize! I like the idea of the filter sending me an email when my tech-savvy kid gets into someplace I don’t want him to go.
February 27th, 2009 at 2:57 AMI’d love to have an iPod Touch.
February 28th, 2009 at 4:13 AMMy son is only allowed to access the Internet under my supervision. This software would be a great tool to give me a break as well as peace of mind. Thank you for the great giveaway!
February 28th, 2009 at 9:34 AMTouch-a-touch-a-touch me! Please.
February 28th, 2009 at 5:13 PMI am glad in the ever evolving world of technology that software to protect children is evolving as well. Kids are far more tech exposed than we ever dreamed.
March 1st, 2009 at 12:37 AMWe love Norton! And the Norton Online Family is great.
Please enter me in the draw. Thanks.
March 1st, 2009 at 2:05 AMThank you for sharing this software with us. These kind of programs are essential when you have kids. Many times I myself have been googling a subject and end up at the wrong site(if you know what I mean). I wish these sites had their own domain so they would be easily spotted but until then this is needed.
March 2nd, 2009 at 2:39 AMP.S - Please enter me into the ipod drawing
i really need this type of things with my kids using the computer now. sounds great.
March 2nd, 2009 at 6:09 AMI would love to win this Norton software as another line of defense to keep my kids safer on the computer. They both use the computer a lot to do reports and research. Thanks for the giveaway!
March 2nd, 2009 at 6:29 AMThis sounds great for when my granddaughter comes to visit. Please enter me for the IPod drawing.
March 2nd, 2009 at 9:33 AMThe Norton product sounds great–my son (8) is pretty cautious, but I could definitely see a use for more monitoring down the road.
Oh, and I’d love an iPod Touch…:)
March 3rd, 2009 at 4:34 PMIf i win this Ipod touch, i will give it to my little girl.
March 3rd, 2009 at 6:42 PMShe is very deserving of my trust, but sometimes i am afraid that her guilt from intentionally or unintentionally visiting a non age-appropriate site m ight keep her from telling me what she discovered. i will try to open up honest dialogue between us about the internet more often.
That sounds reall useful, I think this software would help alot with keeping tabs on what they are doing, better than just talking to them or looking at something that they could have deleted items from.
March 4th, 2009 at 6:13 AMToo bad they didn’t have this software when my boys were coming up.
March 4th, 2009 at 6:56 PMThis review was great - my kid’s only three, however, the fact that I’m a teacher in a middle school has made me aware of the perils of the internet - especially when a kid’s NOT supposed to be somewhere!
March 5th, 2009 at 12:33 AMThat’s really cool. As the kiddo is getting older, it is becoming more necessary to make his internet experience free and yet safe. I can’t be watching over his shoulder every moment.
March 5th, 2009 at 12:38 AManything that helps keep my budding social networkers safe is good with me
sign me up!
March 5th, 2009 at 1:19 AMGreat product! My kids are getting older so this will sure come in handy. Thanks for the review.
March 5th, 2009 at 1:29 AMSounds like a needed product as my kiddies have learned how to browse PAST PBSKids and dinner DOES have to be cooked…. eventually:)
March 5th, 2009 at 2:15 AMWow, we really need this program! With two teenage daughters who always want internet time and each thinks the other gets more time, that timer thing would be a Godsend! Thank you for the heads up on this, and the opportunity to win the iPod Touch!
March 5th, 2009 at 5:25 AMI will have to trial this and see if it works for us :)…my 7 and 11 year old fly across the internet like old pros. I hate to limit them too much, but then again, they put in “Cells” and get some very dubious googles. We homeschool, so we are on the computer all the time.
I want my own iPod…do make a program for those so that it only works for ME????
March 5th, 2009 at 5:31 AMMy son is only 2 1/2, but when he goes to preschools (2 half days a week), but I always talk to his teachers to see how the day went. When he is old enough to use the internet, I would LOVE to have this for our home!
March 5th, 2009 at 7:41 PMThanks!
ericbrooks75@yahoo(dot)com
I made an account with Norton and downloaded it on one computer (the one I really needed it on since my 13 yo is using it for his school). But he immediately complained that it slowed the comp up a storm. I uninstalled and it ran fine. I can’t wait for my hubby to arrive back from working overseas to get it on all our computers. We have 4 children who use the computers when needed in the living room. The oldest (with the complaint) is in his room working on school. We have a basic filter but I really liked what the video ad showed. I hope it works faster when hubby sets all their user accounts upon his return. I would love to win an iPod since both my cell’s mp3 player is not working , nor my cheapo one!
March 7th, 2009 at 4:03 AMLove the idea of this program - I hope it’s better than the other ones out there! I think I’ll check it out…(p.s. - PLEASE pick me for the iPod touch!
he he
March 7th, 2009 at 4:38 PMThis program puts my mind at ease a little for my girls’ futures. There is so much online that it’s scary to even think of my children using my computer… thank goodness some of these companies are doing something about it.
BTW - if you happen to want to give me that iPod touch… my girls have a certain Jonas Brothers video they’d love me to put on it! Thanks for the review!
March 9th, 2009 at 2:12 AMHmmm … I just happen to have the iPod Touch on my wedding registry. Wouldn’t it be cool if I won it this way?
My kids are all grown now, but Norton Online Family would have been a great tool to have to help me keep an eye on their internet usage.
March 9th, 2009 at 3:41 PMIt does look good, but I am worried about the slowness (comment above), as my PC isnt that sparky under normal conditions. Anyone have any similar or different experiences?
March 12th, 2009 at 10:41 PMGreat website. Good start on the translation. Keep up the good work
