My Favorite Child

December 23, 2008

I know it is politically incorrect for a mom to admit that she has a favorite child, but I do. I can’t help it. When you have three kids who all have such different personalities, it’s only human to have a favorite.

I have a favorite child. But don’t tell them.

(Update) Before you get upset that I said I had a favorite child, please read the column.  It may not be what you think.

It’s OK as long as you never let on which one it is.

My mom had a favorite child too. She had five children and the “middle” was her favorite. She never told us and she never showed preferential treatment, but we all knew. And it was not a good feeling. And I don’t think it is OK. Sometimes you just have to work a little harder to get to the special thngs about your other children. And it is worth the effort.

I at the moment have a favorite child. I wouldn’t tell them! My ten year old will argue with me over everything, and he rolls his eyes all the time (a trait he got from me). So, in a way, it’s like fighting with myself, so at the moment, he’s not my fav!

Wonderful post over at parenting! I love that each is “favorite” in their own special way because of their differences.

    Hi Jen, (Jenn?)

I’ve been reading your blog for a long time, but never really commented. I’ve started a blog of my own and now finally understand why commenting is important…

So, anyway - loved the post. I have four boys and I completely agree with your take on favoritism. (Hmmm, maybe I’ll write one too…) I hope you’ll come visit me over at http://momzen.blogspot.com (I’m writing for my own fun too).

I haven’t read it yet, but knowing you from years of reading Mommy Needs coffee, favoritism will not e what it seems.
    Have a great New Year!
